Eve pic

Awakened by the Breath; she opened her eyes and beheld the One that would take her hand and lead her into Life…lead her into love, and lead her into her identity…

This is the heart’s desire from the Beginning; life, love, identity.  We want the fullness life can bring us, we want to be loved, and we want to walk in a secure identity that affords us individuality, character and distinctiveness.

Who are we?… the age old question whispers forth from ancient days.

This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called Woman for she was taken out of man”, Genesis 2:23

This scripture is always read with zero inflection. It makes Adam sound like an intellectual nerd with no feeling or emotion. It makes him sound like, well, a man… But, was this the way it was?

I believe it was quite different…this was a most astounding moment for Adam. His helpmate had been created, then given as a gift to him. He had received a bride to come alongside and live with him. Someone to care for and watch over…

So, please understand, I fully believe Adam did not speak this scripture without expression or emotion. This was a “wow, I can’t believe it!” type of statement. Adam was thrilled with what God had given him. He simply could not believe his eyes. This creature was more than he could have ever asked or imagined!

What captivating beauty, what purity of heart. With one glance, his breath was taken away, for Adam envisioned exactly what God did; a pure and spotless creation.

And there was only one word to describe this creature of excellence...”Woman”.

The most beautiful and captivating name given to the female gender was given in the Beginning.  God allowed Adam the unique privilege of naming all creation, but this; this radiant creation; this called forth Adam’s heart.

There she stood, transparent before him and through a holy eye and a sinless nature Adam beheld this unnamed creature and spoke exactly what held his gaze…

Simply Woman…

Have you ever noticed?  Did it ever jump off the page at you?  Before The Fall, Eve’s name was simply; Woman.

This name was not only a description of her creation, but also a depiction of her identity.  I find it astounding that simply the name “Woman” was enough.

This creature, designed by God and then given as a gift needed and  deserved a name that would embody her identity and describe her relationship to God and then Adam.

Let us contemplate the Beginning…

We must remember there was a period of time that was complete perfection.  God had created the heavens and the earth, and all things that move upon the ground, swim in the sea, and fly in the air. Nothing was out of order except one thing…

God had not found a complimentary helper for Adam.

Consider the creation of life.

All the birds of the air, beasts of the field, and the fish of the sea were spoken into existence. They were called forth by the Creator, and with His call, His very word, they came into existence.

Adam was created from the dust of the ground. God formed him as a potter would form his clay. But for Woman it was different. She was fashioned from human flesh and bone.  God the Creator would choose not to pick up a handful of dust as He did with Adam; no, He chose something else; something that had lifeblood already running through it.

We are uniquely created and we are created to have a unique relationship with our God…

As we travel this journey, we will unveil this Woman. Who she was, how she lived. We will pick apart her life, for it is a diamond. And through all of this, we will find out who we are, who we are created to be…a woman, a bride, and a mother. We will see and begin to understand why we respond the way we do, where our lifeblood comes from, and finally we will take this Woman, and use her as a model to live by.  Her purpose is deep; her creation intentional and beautiful…

We will see that being “Simply Woman” is enough…
